All patients receive a consultation prior to their surgical treatment. This gives an opportunity to discuss the reasons for treatment, alternative treatments and the nature and expected outcomes of treatment. Information handouts are provided and informed consent forms for all procedures are explained and signed.
We have an exceptional team of registered nurses to help care for you through your surgery. Two nurses are present in the surgery throughout the treatment and one follows the patient through to our recovery room for personalised care and post operative instructions. Follow up appointments are arranged before discharge and any prescribed medication is given with instructions. All of the nurses hold current high level training with the NZ Resuscitation Council.
All patients are discharged by one of our registered nurses once they are well enough to travel home. All patients have their after-care plan discussed, and are given any necessary medications. Sedated patients are discharged directly from the recovery room into their car parked at the rear of the building. The person driving a patient home who has had sedation is asked to park at the rear of the building at the pick up stage in parks allocated for the collection of surgical patients.
Control of Anxiety & Pain
The practice offers a full range of measures to make the surgery comfortable and as stress free as possible. Both John and David have a strong interest in advanced intravenous sedation. Sedation offers a pleasant detachment from the procedure. Local anaesthetic is also administered after the induction of sedation to ensure the procedure is pain free. Usually patients are so detached and comfortable during surgery that they do not remember anything of it and think that they were asleep.
When required, General Anaesthesia that makes the patients fully unconscious is provided by an Anaesthetist at Grace Private Hospital.
Retaining the Appearance of Teeth
Many of the procedures require the removal of teeth. No patient is ever required to go home without at least a temporary placement of teeth. We can ensure you always have teeth to maintain your appearance.
