Tauranga Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Tauranga Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery represents the association between our three surgeons Dr Abi Estelle, Dr John Bridgman and Dr David Chrisp.
Abi, John and David practice together to provide high quality specialist oral surgical services in Tauranga for locals and those in the wider Bay of Plenty community.
The primary function of Tauranga Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is to complement the care provided by general dental and medical practitioners on a referral basis. We most commonly remove impacted wisdom teeth and provide the surgery for dental implants. We also frequently manage potentially difficult dental extractions for which the patient's general dental practitioner may feel unable to safely manage.
Where appropriate, patients can be seen without referral. However, we do not provide general dental care so after surgical treatment, patients are referred back to their general dental practitioner for ongoing dental care. For patients who come to see us without a general dental practitioner, we endeavour to assist them in finding a suitable local practitioner.
The scope of our specialist care extends to more complex surgery with procedures to eradicate jaw pathology such as cysts or tumours, surgery to correct facial deformity, jaw joint surgery and oral medicine.
The Tauranga OMS team understand dental procedures can be a cause of anxiety. Our surgeons are leaders in their fields and are supported by a team of skilled nurses and support staff who are here to make your experience with us both safe and comfortable.

WHAT WE DO
Our role as specialists is to support the local dental and medical practitioners by providing patient care which is outside the scope of general practitioners. Many minor surgical procedures such as routine dental extractions are able to be performed very competently by dentists.
Patients are commonly referred to us when their general dentist or doctor has concerns about being able to safely and efficiently undertake the required procedure in a way that allows the patient to be comfortable and likely to achieve prompt healing.
